About the School
Summer School of Science is an international, 8 to 10-day long summer workshop where high school students come to share their enthusiasm for discovery and invention. Around 30 students from all over the world participate each year in this adventure that combines passionate work and learning with opportunities to make life-long friendships.Students work in small groups of three or four on a single scientific project, guided by a mentor: usually an undergraduate or a graduate student or a postdoctoral research scientist. With its accent on stating hypothesis, data collection, analysis and interpretation of results, Summer School of Science provides students with an introduction to scientific method. Projects cover different areas of natural sciences and technology, combining theoretical and experimental approaches to solve problems.
Project work is accompanied by evening lectures given by eminent scientists, as well as workshops that aim to put science in a wider social context. During all school activities, students have an opportunity to learn about the academic and other career pathways and form valuable ties with their colleagues, mentors and other young scientists.
The School is held each summer in Visnjan, a small town in Croatian peninsula Istria (see map and more info).
